Cooper

Cooper - is a greyhound/dalmation mix and has been in the Jefferson County Animal Shelter for 6 weeks. The shelter contacted us to see if we would take him even though he is a greyhoud mix. Of course, we said yes.

Cooper is deaf but his foster mom is teaching him hand signs. Most of the time you would not realize he is deaf. He is very aware of his surroundings. He knows a hand signal for "come" so all you have to do is be where he can see you. He also kind of knows "down." If you show him where you want him to go and then use the signal, he will lay down. The only difference is that you have to have his attention and sometimes that means going to him rather than calling across the room or from another room. The foster mom is going to ask a trainer for more hand signals and training tips.

Cooper is doing well with his foster greyhound brother and Cavalier Spaniels. He loves to sleep in bed with the whole gang!

He was great with kids. He gave kisses, endured hugs, played ball and generally was good with the kids. Cooper loved giving kisses to the 9 month old baby! He will be a great family dog.

Cooper loves to run in the yard with Morley, his greyhound foster brothe although he doesn't come near keeping up with him! He loves to play with toys but they have to be the hard, indestructible kind because he is really rough on them. He'll play ball for hours and loves tug o'war.

He will go to the door, even bark when he wants out.

His foster mom gets a kick out of is how sound he sleeps. "He isn't bothered by all the little noises that the other dogs hear. So when he goes to sleep he is dead to the world. I have to shake him to wake him. And then he looks at you like "Huh - what?"

He is cat-safe.
