Busy Bee
Busy Bee is a 31/2 year old female who broke her right back leg and tore her plantar ligament during a race in December. She was taken to a vet in Kansas City with instructions to euthanize her. After a conversation with the owners, the vet was given one hour to place her in a group or to put her down. They began frantic calls to all of the rescue groups in and around the area. We answered their desperate plea.
Busy Bee was able to have her surgery done the same day. To repair the leg she had to have a rod and a wire inserted. She was moved to a temporary foster home until she was able to travel. During her stay in Kansas City she needed a number of cast changes and x-rays to make sure her leg was healing correctly.
When, at the end of January 2005, Busy Bee was cleared for travel, she already had a new home waiting. A very shy girl greeted her new foster mom upon arrival in St. Louis. At her new home, Busy Bee was frightened of everything; from her new greyhound sister to her new food bowls. For several days she did not want any kind of human interaction and was content to live in her kennel. She was slow to trust anyone; it took many hours of gentle coaxing and time to allow her to settle in before she started to come out of her shell.
Busy Bee went to the vet again, the second week of February, to see if her cast could come off. During her examination and while reviewing her x-rays, it was determined that the hardware in her leg had to be removed. This surgery was completed successfully but she will need some physical therapy to reverse the muscular atrophy caused by two surgeries and caused by time spent in a cast. Busy Bee is expected to make a full recovery with no long-term complications.
It has taken a good deal of time and patience but Busy Bee’s true playful personality is finally being seen. She loves to play with her babies (stuffed animals.) and she has a nice little game she likes to play called steal the socks. She even likes her new greyhound sister. She has, unfortunately, also taken an extreme interest in the cats and is not considered cat safe. She has a very sweet personality and would make a great addition to any family.
All persons interested in adopting Busy Bee are encouraged to fill out an application. However, due to her condition there may be a wait while she recovers.
