Special Needs
We at Rescued Racers believe that every greyhound should have a chance at a normal life. As such, we will not turn away any greyhound regardless of age, illness, or physical condition. Many of our greyhounds come to us with ailments requiring extensive veterinary treatment. We believe in exploring all avenues of treatment available to make our hounds healthy again. As such, our medical bills can become quite expensive; some totaling in the thousands of dollars.

Our Special Needs and Seniors need "guardian angels". Rescued Racers is completely staffed by volunteers; every penny goes to help our greyhounds. We hope that you would find it in your heart to make a donation, either on a monthly or a one-time basis. Even if it is only five dollars, you are helping to save the life of one more Rescued Racer. Donations can be made by paypal or by contacting Jan Healey at mom2-3greyts@juno.com.

Our Special Ones
Willie was born with a heart condition which slowly increased his heart to the size of a softball. He required daily medication and monthly veternarian visits. Otherwise, he was a happy, energetic hound who loved and enjoyed the company of his foster family. Willie has since passed on. You can view his story here:   Willie
Henrietta was born with a hernia which allowed her intestines to become entangled with her lungs. Without expensive surgery, her prognosis was extremely bleak. We at rescued racers believe every hound should have a chance at normal life and as such, do not turn away dogs with treatable though sometimes expensive medical conditions. We afforded the surgery to correct this condition and she can now lead a happy, normal life. Her story can be read here:   Henrietta
Busy Bee is a 31/2 year old female who broke her right back leg and tore her plantar ligament during a race in December. She was taken to a vet in Kansas City with instructions to euthanize her. The vets there quickly tried to find a rescue group to pay for her surgery in order to save her life; they were given one hour. We picked up the cost of her surgery and convalescence until she was well enough to travel. Her story can be read here:   Busy Bee
Hobbie is an eight-year-old female who was returned to us when her owners stated that they could no longer care for her. Upon her return, her owners told the vet staff that she had not eaten in three weeks. She was, in fact, in very poor health. Her ears were filthy, she had fleas, and she was loaded with whipworms. Her breath was phenomenally foul. Her teeth were so badly decayed that she had roots exposed and lesions on her gums from irritation and bacteria. In addition, she also was infected with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Her tale can be read here:   Hobbie
